Expression #5: Nobody put a gun to your head!

English has many convenient expressions.

These expressions are usually used in speaking.

​

One expression is: “Nobody put a gun to your head!”

 

This is an informal and critical expression which

some people use to respond to others who

inappropriately complain that they felt forced

to do something.

​

This expression references a gun because people

can truly be forced to do something if they are

threatened with violence.

​

Example:

​

Mary: “I really don’t want to go

              to that party. I wish they

              hadn’t invited us.”

John:  “Well, nobody put a gun to your head.

              You should have just said no.”

Mary: “Yeah. You’re right…”
