ENGLISH EXPRESSIONS

Expression #5: Nobody put a gun to your head!

English has many convenient expressions.

These expressions are usually used in speaking.

One expression is: “Nobody put a gun to your head!”

This is an informal and critical expression which

some people use to respond to others who

inappropriately complain that they felt forced

to do something.

This expression references a gun because people

can truly be forced to do something if they are

threatened with violence.

Example:

Mary: “I really don’t want to go

to that party. I wish they

              hadn’t invited us.”

John:  “Well, nobody put a gun to your head.

You should have just said no.”

Mary: “Yeah. You’re right…”
